What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction is an ancient practice with a modern approach. It finds roots in contemplative Christianity as well as other faith traditions, but centers on an individual’s unique spiritual journey. Spiritual Direction shares similarities with modern counseling and therapy, but with some essential differences.

How Does a Session Work?

Spiritual Direction usually takes the form of a one-hour session. The session is a confidential conversation led with a time of silence to begin and guided by open-ended questions in which you (the “directee”) have space to share, listen, discern, and explore the wisdom of your heart (emotions), mind (intellect), body (physical awareness) and soul (true self). I also offer individual Spiritual Direction Supervision Sessions for trained Spiritual Directors.

How Often Do We Meet?

It’s up to you to determine how frequently (weekly, monthly, etc.) and for how many sessions we meet. Some directees meet for Spiritual Direction a few times, others meet consistently for many years. Some find it helpful to have a standing appointment (such as, the second Tuesday in each month at 9:00am), while others schedule one session at a time.

My preferred appointment times are 8:30am-3pm on weekdays; however I’m open to scheduling other times that work for you. You can look at my current availability and schedule an appointment online here.

If or when you would like to discontinue or pause Spiritual Direction, I will always respect your decision. Whenever possible, I encourage us to have a direct conversation about this so that we can end with intention and I can receive feedback you have that might be of benefit.

What is the Cost?

My current fee is $90 for a one-hour session. If you would like to prepay in advance for six sessions, there is a reduced fee of $500 (rather than $540). If you are interested in Spiritual Direction, but have financial concerns, please let me know and we can discuss an arrangement. Fees are due at the conclusion of each session. Payment by check or Zelle is preferred, though I also accept Venmo (there is a 2% transaction fee for Venmo payments).

What if I Need to Cancel?

Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. I understand that emergencies occur and will handle them as they arise. In respect for both my time and yours, missed appointments for non-emergencies are charged as a regular session.
